Flick Electric Moves to Meridian Energy

Flick’s customers are moving. In an announcement today, Meridian will pay $70 million to absorb Flick Electric’s 41,000 customers, most of whom are domestic. The move will lift the market share of Meridian Energy up to 18%. Flick will be sold by Australian-owned fuel retailer Z Energy to one of the big-four generator retailers.
"Ampol's divestment of Flick is about strategic fit as Z Energy evolves its strategy to focus on public, business and home EV charging solutions to scale and deliver a strong customer value proposition to support the energy transition," a statement from Meridian said.
Flick will be joining Powership in becoming owned by Meridian, who have said that Flick customers will be looked after under the new acquisition.
"Flick customers can be confident of moving to a company that's committed to outstanding customer service and great value, and we look forward to having them come on board," chief customer officer Lisa Hannifin said.
Flick has had a bit of a journey. In 2018, Z energy acquired a majority stake, which completely diversified the business. However, Flick struggled during the rise of wholesale electricity prices, and moved from wholesale power pricing to a niche offering. Now, it will be acquired by Meridian Energy.
